Neil Finn of Crowded House (and lately, Fleetwood Mac) has been so prolific with his home concerts in recent weeks that I'm going to need to post more from him just to keep up. The photo is from a concert appearance they did together in 2003. So instead, I thought it was fitting to use a photo of Jones and Nelson together. But she doesn't really look any different than she did for the covers in the last two home concert albums of hers I've put together. But I was able to easily fix that by raising the volume on all those talking bits.įinally, viva Willie Nelson, who as I write this in 2020, is still going strong musically at 87 years old!Ġ1 Funny How Time Slips Away (Norah Jones)įor the cover art, I could have gone with a screenshot of Jones playing these songs. One exception is that she tends to talk very quietly between songs. (I do have her doing "Crazy" and "Funny How Time Slips Away" on earlier stray tracks albums I've put together, with the latter being a duet version with Nelson.) The vast majority of the songs are songs Jones hasn't officially released. But I think it's good to present this on its own due to its consistent Willie Nelson theme. I could have waited until she did another mini-concert and then bundled this one with that one. This is a fairly short show at 27 minutes. All the songs were written by Nelson, with the exception of one song, "Remember Me," which is a song Nelson covered on one of his albums. On the date of country legend Willie Nelson's 87th birthday, she did a special Willie-Nelson-themed show. Just yesterday, she did an extra special concert that was her most interesting one yet, in my opinion. She keeps putting on interesting mini-home concerts once or twice a week. The album, LUCKY, was full of good stuff, and ranks up there with BRAVE & CRAZY. ‘Breathe’ from ’04, was another in a long line of great singles, and first from an outside writer. Like Melissa, Bill never forgot anyone along the way who helped, big or small. Bill Leopold, not once did he take his eye off the ball. In no way to dwarf her greatness, it must be said, having one of the best and unsung managers in the business behind the curtain made for an even stronger result. Live shows from the period were about the best thing you could hope to see. Seemed she loosened her image simultaneously, losing the initial housewife look, as one journalist coined it, for a jeans/t-shirt and gel-free hair. This second release however, was a natural. Sure, that first album opened a big door yet looking back now, I think it was a bit stiff and uncomfortable.
There was a moment around the release of her second album, BRAVE & CRAZY, when Melissa Etheridge hit her stride. Listen: Breathe / Melissa Etheridge MelissaBreathe.mp3
